Ludwigshafen, Germany -- The Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE has appointed Dr. Jrg Buchmuller (60) as the companys General Counsel and head of the Legal, Taxes & Insurance division with immediate effect. Buchmuller succeeds Dr. Hans-Ulrich Engel, who was simultaneously appointed to the Board of Executive Directors.

Buchmuller is a lawyer and has headed BASFs Legal department since 2003. After receiving a doctorate in law from the University of Constance, Buchmuller joined BASFs Legal department in 1978. In the course of his career, he has contributed his legal expertise to a number of important major projects in Germany and abroad, and has thus gained broad experience in the key legal issues faced by a global company.

He is admired as an outstanding expert in questions of international law, both within the company and externally.
