Vic: Investigations into mine gas incident to begin today
Investigations will begin today into how 11 miners were overcome by toxic fumes following
a controlled blast in a central Victorian underground gold mine.
The 11 miners were injured .. one seriously .. at the Perseverance Northgate mine at
Fosterville .. about 20 kays east of Bendigo .. about 4.40 yesterday afternoon (AEDT).
It's believed a controlled explosion used to dislodge ore from other rocks released
gases including nitrous oxide .. carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
10 of the miners were treated for minor respiratory distress at the Bendigo hospital
.. but a 41-year-old man was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he is in a stable
condition.
