Fed: Aust economy to benefit from fewer BAS reports

CANBERRA, Feb 6 AAP - The Australian economy would benefit from a simplification of
the GST Business Activity Statement (BAS), small business said today.

Prime Minister John Howard yesterday announced the government would consider ways to
simplify the GST reporting process after complaints from small businesses it was too complex.

Council of Small Business Organisations chief executive Rob Bastian said the council
welcomed the indication the government was moving towards a remittance program supported
by a single annual report.
